Have you just bought an Apple computer?  Or is it your first one, or just new to the computer world?  Then this class is for you.  Let me know by email in general what you know and I’ll pick up from there.  Don’t know how to power it up, we can start from there too.  We will cover the different types of Apple computers, Apple keyboard, Safari internet browsing, WiFi, the display and how to move things around, giving the computer instructions, finding, organizing and using applications, finding and organizing files and folders.  This is an entry level course and I may offer other courses that deal with these Apple computer aspects in more detail.

Apple Computers Basics: 101

Now that you know the basics of a Mac computer, let’s learn how to communicate with the outside world using Apple’s Contacts and Mail applications.  We will see how a well populated Contacts list will greatly assist you in using Mail, Apple’s email application.  We will cover how to set up your contacts template, add a new contact, add a new group, how and when it is safe to delete a contact and/or group, and how to find a contact when your contacts list gets longer.

Contacts & Mail: 101

After you have learned, or already know the basics, we will take you to the next level and learn many interesting and productive ways to use your Mac more efficiently.  We will cover time machine, WiFi, Bluetooth, Spotlight search, external monitors and adaptors, airplay and airplay mirroring, Apple menu including about this Mac, updating/App Store, finding system preferences, notification center, basics of iCloud, troubleshooting a mac including Quit/Force Quit, restarting, healthy system updates; we will discuss how to use and organize your dock (the icons at the bottom of your screen) and how to move files around.  This is an intermediate level course and I may offer other courses that deal with these Apple computer aspects in more detail.

Productivity: 201

Do you take any photos?  If yes, then you definitely want to take this class.  iPhoto is Apple’s amazing photo organizer.  It can do many amazing things.  We will cover an introduction to the different parts and views of iPhoto, many ways to get photos into iPhoto, what to do with your pictures and how to view and organize them including: date/rating organization, rotating, deleting, Info Tab including Faces and Places, date/time changes, batch changes, scrolling, Events and Album creation, and the basics of how to get pictures out of iPhoto including: print, email and backup.  iPhoto 101 and iPhoto 201 are actually one long class split into two parts.  Highly recommend taking both, and if possible, take them back to back.  iPhoto is so amazing that it’s worth the investment.

iPhoto: 101

This is part two of the iPhoto classes, and the next logical step.  In this class we will cover how to edit your photos including: Quick Fixes like leveling, cropping, red eye, retouching, exposure, colour cast problems, colour saturation.  Through these edits we will also cover the Effects and Adjust tabs.  Then we will learn the foundation of how to create a slideshow.  The grand finale will be learning the basic foundations of creating books, calendars and cards, using your own photos and own messages.  Finally give a book, calendar and/or card to someone special that really shows what you want to show and say what you really want to say.  Our apologies to Hallmark and Carlton :-)

iPhoto: 201

Do you have one or multiple Apple computers and/or iOS devices like and iPhone or iPad?  Take this class to learn how to share what I call “convenience data” between these products.  We will cover an introductory overview of iCloud, iTunes in iCloud, Photo Stream, Documents in iCloud, Safari, iCloud Email, Calendar, Contacts, Notes & Reminders, Apps, iBooks, backing up to iCloud and Find my Device.  Even if you have only one Apple product, this class is still for you as iCloud will store your convenience data on their servers.  This can really be of great assistance to you should your Apple product become lost or stolen.

iCloud: 201

Have you just switched from using a Windows computer to an Apple computer?  Want to know the differences and similarities between the two?  Then let’s fast track you into understanding the Apple computer during your time of transition. * Note: Even though this class is foundation in nature I have given it an intermediate level as it is helpful for the participant of this class to be familiar with the basics of the Apple computer and/or iOS Device like an iPhone, iPad and/or iPod.  Please check some of my 101 level classes to ensure that you are comfortable with that knowledge base.

iTunes, iOS Device & Apple TV: 201*

Did you just buy or receive an iPad or iPhone and want to know how to use it?  Take this class to start at the beginning.  We will cover a physical tour of the device, getting connected to the internet through WiFi and/or Cellular, Safari web browsing, basic Apple applications that come with the device, App Store, iBooks and iTunes Store.  iPad/iPhone 101 and iPad/iPhone 201 are actually one long class split into two parts.  Highly recommend taking both, and if possible, take them back to back.

iPad/iPhone: 101

This is part two of the iPad/iPhone classes, and the next logical step.  We pick up where we left off by covering more settings including Personal Hotspot, Bluetooth, Siri, Syncing info with iCloud (Note: There is a more comprehensive look at iCloud in my iCloud: 201 class), iTunes syncing including WiFi syncing.

iPad/iPhone: 201

From the Apple factory, the general computer settings are good for most people.  But let’s face it, most of us are individuals; we would like to tweak our computer to work and look the way we prefer.  Make your computer your own.  Take this class to cover about fifty percent of the most common settings in System Preferences.  We will cover things like: Desktop & Screen Saver, Dock, Language & Text, Security & Privacy, Displays, Energy Saver, Keyboard, Mouse, Trackpad, Print & Scan, iCloud basic settings, Users, Parental Controls, Date & Time, Dictation & Speech, Time Machine.  This is an entry level course and I may offer other courses that deal with these Apple computer aspects in more detail.

System Preferences: 101

GarageBand is for everyone, but most people have never learned how to use it, or even realize how helpful it is to them on the Apple Computer.  We will cover a tour of GarageBand ’11 (version 6.0.5 for now), Loops Demo; how to make a piece of music using loops (great for non-musicians) and a Software Instrument Demo; creating a piece of music using the GarageBand Software Instruments.

GarageBand 101 and GarageBand 201 are actually one long class split into two parts.  Highly recommend taking both, and if possible, take them back to back.  GarageBand is so amazing that it’s worth the investment.

GarageBand (for Mac): 101

This is part two of the GarageBand classes, and the next logical step.  We pick up where we left off by going through the Preferences and Menu and covering more about creating a song using multiple inputs including loops, software instruments, microphones and real instruments.  We will use a USB microphone and acoustic guitar if class location permits.  From this level of training you can customize your use of GarageBand; the sky is the limit.

GarageBand (for Mac): 201

Have you taking all the classes above and just want to learn more, or, do you just know about everything above and want to learn something different, then email me what you would like to cover per hour and I’ll see what I can customize for you.  I am a life-long learner and not all-knowing (sorry to shatter the image you had of me :-) but I will do my best for you.

Customized Apple Training: 101, 201 and/or 301

Once you’ve taken both iPhoto classes, let’s put what you’ve learned into real use by creating a custom book, calendar and/or card.  In an hour I will assist you in creating as much of your project(s) using your own pictures.  This is where you get to create that one-of-a-kind gift for that someone special, including, of course, yourself :-)

iPhoto Workshop: 301

I also have other life experience in the audio and video fields including, but not limited to, live sound systems & mixing, home audio/video systems, synthesizers & music creation, photography, photo manipulation, videography, video editing (may create an iMovie class in future) and design.  Do you want to learn something different, then email me what you would like to cover per hour and I’ll see what I can customize for you. Again, I am a life-long learner and not all-knowing (sorry to shatter the image you had of me :-) but I will do my best for you.  Different rates may apply to customized media training depending on complexity.
